If you are experience missing or distorted audio in FFXIV and you have a Virtual Mixer or Multichannel Virtual Audio Cable installed on your system, you may need to reconfigure your output routing inside that software. Before beginning that process, we recommend circumventing any virtual routing entirely by configuring your default system audio output to your headphones.
How to set your audio output device in Windows 11
- Launch your Windows Settings app by pressing Windows + I
- Select the System category from the left sidebar
- Select the Sound tab from the right side pane
- Under Output, select the device which corresponds to your headphones
- Restart FFXIV for settings to take effect
How to set your audio output device in Windows 10
- Right-click the Sound Icon in your Windows taskbar
- Select Open Sound Settings
- Under Output, select the device which corresponds to your headphones
- Under Advanced sound options, select App volume and device preferences
- Confirm that FINAL FANTASY XIV's Output is set to Default or the option which corresponds to your headphones
- Restart FFXIV for settings to take effect
If adjusting these settings solves your audio issues, then there may be something wrong with the output routing inside your virtual mixer.
